Full-Time Fire Chief/EMS Director

This position is responsible for the financial and operational performance of the department, which includes, but is not limited to managing, supervising, budgeting, negotiating, planning, organizing, and directing all functions of the department. This Chief position is also a “working” position and is expected to fill two Fire Officer shifts per week. The successful candidate must also possess excellent written and oral skills, relationship building, and interpersonal skills.

Candidates who possess a BA/BS in Fire Science, public administration or a closely related field, have a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in a fire/EMS service area, including five years of increasingly responsible command experience through the level of Chief are preferred.

The City of Calais offers a competitive benefits package, including health, dental and short-term disability insurance, life insurance, Maine State Retirement, 13 holidays and a minimum of 3-weeks of paid vacation time. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Full-Time Police Officer

The City of Calais is accepting resumes/applications for 2 full-time Police Officers. Requirements: Candidates must hold a valid Maine driver’s license, be at least 21 years of age, and hold a high school diploma, or GED equivalent. Candidates who have made the final selection may be required to successfully complete the physical agility test (MCJA Standard) and must pass a thorough background investigation, which includes a polygraph, psychological, and financial examination. (3) Full-Time Paramedics and Part- Time and On Call Firefighter-EMT’s 

Calais Fire-EMS is seeking (3) full-time paramedics. Experience and training as a firefighter would be beneficial. Calais Fire-EMS offers a competitive wage.

Calais Fire-EMS is also looking for “on call” Firefighter-EMT’s. We offer free training for the job. We have all the proper equipment to make the job as safe as possible. If you have the desire to help your neighbor, this is the job for you.
